About David
It WAS A HOT SUMMER...
in the middle of July, back in 1999. David’s 7th grade self was found open-mouthed and wonderstruck at the very first experience of a beach camp with a large stage, lights, a full band and dynamic speakers. He was captivated while listening to “Here I Am To Worship” from an old “Passion” record as he sat up front in the church van on the way back home. Feeling a sense of awe and wonder, David could tangibly sense God’s presence and heart in the lyrics and melody as they were united together in the sound. David, pulling the headphones off after a few minutes of listening, leaned over to his youth pastor and asked him, “Is it possible to experience God in music?” Without hesitation, his youth pastor responded with a confident “yes” and David then knew it wasn’t just an emotional connection to a lyrically rich song, but David was tangibly sensing the Presence of our “Altogether worthy” God and In that moment, while time seemingly stood still, David felt the hug of heaven and he knew that the worship of our Holy, Faithful and Wonderful God, would be a treasured conviction for the rest of his life.
David told the Lord a long time ago, “I’ll take PEOPLE over PLATFORMS”, and because of that, He graciously gives him both. A leadership coach once told him, “David, one day you’ll be older and there will be others who come along and the only thing that you’ll have to offer is your life-lessons and experience.” As bold as that statement is, it clicked with me and I currently find myself on a quest to share all that I’m learning and have learned over time. I tell folks all the time I’m a worship pastor with a youth pastor’s heart. Even before hearing from that leadership coach, I’ve felt a mandate from heaven to invest in the next generation and give them opportunities to learn to lead and lead while they learn.
